Aug. 21st, 2006 01:45 amI can't help but find funny how the "current location" field on LJ is so often used with stuff that does NOT work with google Maps.
Anyway. Partially fun weekend.
Bad stuff first. I missed yet another furmeet. I had set my alarm for about noon on saturday, and had my cellphone on for anyone who could give me a ride to call. Turns out that i had my headphones still plugged into my laptop, and i didn't get a call.
So i slept until about 3pm. Blah. But i guess i needed that sleep, with the van thing the day before.
And i got a good 12h of sleep last night, which is also very good.
Work is starting to be very boring, since there's no longer enough things to do to justify two person in one departement. All that's left to do is some cleanup and various small details. And due to the lack of work, the guy i'm working with is being a real pain in the tail. He keeps yelling at him for stealing his tasks and blah.
And since he has nothing else to do, those complains tend to stretch over half an hour, as he "really wants me to understand why it's wrong for me to do that". It's also just stupid details, like using the picker instead of the ladder to bring some boxes down. But he's the "assigned picker driver for the departement", and blah...
My boss is coming back this week at least, so hopefully he can temporarely reassing me elsewhere, or change that job description stuff.
But i'm guessing this means that they will most likely soon let go of the temp working there, so either i'll get an offer for a permanent position, or the temp agency will send me elsewhere. Or, i can do another job search on my own, and find something better.
I know some place is offering 14$/hour for a similar job. Might try that. Anyway, without the van, debts aren't such in a hurry to be paid.
And it's kinda funny, at work they're already putting out the christmas stuff. Which is stupid, as it's waaay too early and summer stuff still sold. Also, the day people aren't very good drivers. So guess what happened when one tried to start putting the snowthrowers on the floor?
... they dropped a 1600$ (Rona's cost, not the retail value) one from 20ft in the air, smashing it completely, and breaking bits of the concrete floor below. So that's about a 2000$ net loss there. And they made a few other like that, dropping things, or backing up into a beam they just filled with christmas lights...
And some product placement is really weird. BBQ lighters with trash cans. Oven mits with christmas lights. Moisture meters with outdoor moving santa claus. Motor oil with christmas trees. Mops with plant pots. Water hoses with alarm clocks. Lawnmower blades with back to school furnitures. E-Z cloth with automated sprinkler systems.
That turned into a "find the possible use for it" with the coworkers.
... and one of the halloween moving outdoor decoration turned funny. It's supposed to be a ghost that rises out of a pumpkin. But the thing was built improperly, so it gets stuck, then pops up and falls off the guide rails. Which was really funny the first time, then just got annoying. Then someone finally found how to unplug it.
Also, all the alarm clocks they put as demos in the "back to school" section have batteries. And all are factory set to 00:00. Which is midnight. When they put them up, they set the time properly. But the alarm was still at 00:00... Guess what happened at midnight? Over 30 alarms going off all over the store.
Some of them quite well hidden.
So a nice bit of fun there too. Some people didn't appreciate, but.... Yeah.
On the stupid side again. We received one last shipment of pool stuff. Since all the stuff was practially empty, i filled up all the shelves with it, emptying every single box, and making it all clean and stuff.
... then two days later, i get a notice from the departement manager (dayshift) saying "When you get the last shipment of pool stuff, don't take it out of the boxes, don't put it on the shelves, it's supposed to go in a special display near the exit."
Yeah... That's the kind of stuff that should have been said days ago.
But whatever. Not my fault, he said it too late.
And that's all i can think of for that one. Wheee... Long update.
