Feb. 23rd, 2007 11:10 amMrf. Week almost over. Yay. Paycheck got in. Yay. Unexpected 40$ Yay!
Furnace blew up. Merf... T-shirt orange from acid instead of blue. Merf...
And more in detail.
Two days ago, a bit before going to work, my attempt to nap failed due to the mother coming to wake me up because "something started smelling like burning stuff", and i'm apparently skilled at identifying those.
So i got up went upstairs, and it turns out it smelled like a heating element overheating and burnt dust. So immediately i thought it must be the furnace. So first thing i did, i shut the thing down, then tried to check what was wrong with it. At first, it didn't even want to power back up. Then somehow, it worked somewhat normally. So i guessed that either i was wrong, or that it was multiple heating elements, and only one burned out.
Kinda wanted to check more, considered taking it apart, but well, work was close so no time to start doing that.
Next morning, i was rather zombie due to the nap failure, so i went straight to bed. And my mom called the repair person for the furnace. As a result of this, she had to clear out that part of the basement, which is next to my bedroom, and blah. So that kept waking me up. Then the guy came here, used powertools which also woke me up. Then it was dinner time.
Turns out i was half-right about the furnace. The elements didn't break. But the blower's motor was dying, so it started just fine, but as soon as it got hot it seized, resulting in no air going thru the elements, which made them overheat and burn the surrounding dust until the safety circuits detected the heat above critical level and shut down the whole thing. Then it would cool down and try again...
So that got fixed. New, stronger motor. Apparently the electric heating elements were also close to frying, but still survived. They just burned a lot of dust and stuff.
And apparently, my mother was also using the wrong kind of air filter. Which probably was also one of the reasons why it died like that. She had it placed in a way that blocked the airflow, and used one that was definitively too small. It was supposed to kinda be placed diagonally across the whole intake duct, but she had it placed flat against the blower's intake, which is a 8in wide hole instead of the whole 20x25in duct... So yeah, was restricting airflow like crazy.
And as a result of this, i was qute zombie once worktime. Which for some annoying reason, was the only time i actually had a decent amount of stuff to do for the day. All week i got only one single pallet, but that time i had almost a dozen.
Got done fast at least. But just to make things suck even more, my mother forgot to buy bread due to the whole furnace thing, and i forgot my MP3 player at home.
So a night without my usual sandwich, and without music. Blargh.
And right now, i'm for some reason not wanting to sleep. But i will anyway, soon-ish.
Yay for friday. Even more yay when friday's work is done.
It also seems that i'm the only one who really takes care of the batteries at work. We went thru a few days where we ran out of batteries due to most of them being crap and not even lasting an hour, when they should for about 8. So i decided to spend some time in the battery room each night when i can and refill/equalize/etc the ones that need it. Seems to be kinda working, as even the older one seem to have 2-3 hours of life in them now. But as a result of that, i lost a t-shirt due to it being eaten by acid. For some reason, the blue turn orange, then white, then fall apart. Annoying.
I just wish the dayshift people would even try to keep them maintained. I clean them up, fill up the water, recharge them and all. And when i come back, i got cells that went dry, acid leaking around from them handling them roughly without caps on, some are plugged on the wrong chargers (24v charger on a 36v battery...) and some even do stupid things like plug the two batteries together, and the two chargers together..
Oh, and on the blah side too. Turns out that my GPRS data plan doesn't cover the USA anymore. FIDO sucks. I'm probably going to get something with Cingular or whatever next time i go on a long-ish trip there.
And i'm still waiting for work to switch to 4d/10h mode. Yay for longer weekends.
I think i'll just be stupid and spend another 500$ or so going to the other end of the country for a weekend as soon as i can afford it. Or down south. Or... anywhere, really.
Blah. Sleep is needed. So i will do that now.
