Hehe... Had some quite interesting dreams this night. ... day. ... thing.

I was in some place, can't remember exactly what it was, but i was fixing some high tech junk for some scientist-type people. I was discussing with then, and at some point, we started talking about dragons and stuff. One of them told me that he had a friend who was a gryphon. So we went to see him, and it turns out that he actually was physically one.We started talking, and apparently he had found a way to transform someone into gryphon hatchling, and have them grow into adult form. And offered me to try it.

And obviously, after a bit of convincing, i agreed. Apparently, it was going to be easier to eventually switch from gryphon to dragon, so why not... Gryphon is better than human anyway.

So they started working on me. Which was kinda odd, as i was still fully awake in the dream, but they started cutting me open and removing muscles and stuff, and playing with nerves and mapping out things. That was kinda funny to me, because i could see them hook things up to my spine, and i would feel things on what should be my foot, but i knew it wasn't moving or being touched. And that was all somehow painless.

After some point, it started getting boring and finally somewhat painfull, so they made me go unconscious for what seemed a short time. When i woke up, i was completely changed. I looked like a completel mess, but i could see what they had made, and how it would grow into the proper form.

That dream ended as i was starting to learn to walk again with the new legs i had, which wasn't quite easy. But it was fun... I just wish i could have seen myself as a proper gryphon in it.

Other than that...

Yeah, yesterday night was fun. Thunderstorms, heavy rain, insane winds, that kind of stuff.

Especially when i was at work. That part was absolutely awesome. First, when i got at work, first thing i asked my boss. "What happen when the power goes out here? Are there emergency lights? Do we have a generator?" Turns out we have none of that. The registers at the front have about 15min of power from batteries, and that's all. There's a heavy duty generator they can start for extended power cuts, but that's apparently a pain to get on and stop.

So what happens obviously about half an hour after i started working? The power goes out. Well, first, it flickers, which causes most of the lights to go out, as we have those big buzzing industrial ones that can't handle being switched off and on very fast. So the store is very dark. The reception on the handheld scannners is lost, which means that they all do the alarm sound. So this is really a movie-grade "something is wrong" scenario. Especially with all the plastic wrap and cardboard boxes piled up from the reception.

And then, big lightning flash, a loud clang, everything goes out.

So we're all in the dark, the only light we have is the lightning, the amber strobe on the pickers, and the laser from our handheld scanners. And in the dark, that plastic wrapping stuff looks even more like alien cocoons. And there are boxes everywhere, with people tripping over them. And of course, the power being out means that there's no music, no lights buzzing, no nothing. So all we hear is the rain, wind and our "local wildlife" inside the store.

So that was awesome. I wish i had my camera. It wasn't scary, but it could have been the perfect setting for something starting to hunt us, or whatever. Everyone gathered in the central alley, with the lifts and pickers, and we waited. It didn't last for more than 5-10 minutes, hard to say as i couldn't see my watch, but it wasn't long enough.

... i was really tempted to make air-paks explode to scare people, or turn off the main breaker to keep the power out.

Eventually, it came back. Which was very nice too. The lights don't come back all at once. They start at the other end of the store, and turn out row by row. So you had the rows of light turning on over each asile one by one, with a loud clang, and progressively coming closer to where i was. That was really cool to see.

And i still absolutely love driving the motorised picker. I need a picture of it.

Other than that, not too much. Dentist, sleep, and now my weekend.

Apparently, in a few weeks, they'll switch the schedule at the store to "non-rush" mode, which means that i'll now get weekends off like everyone. Which is good. And i'm starting to look at what i'll have to do to be officially an employee of Rona instead of a temp.

... and i really need to get off my tail and get those driving lessons done.

And that's all for now.
And... One more night spent coding. Whee... I got a new toy. *swishes his tail happily*

Ok, most of you know... or maybe you don't since there's a lot of new people on my LJ. But whatever. I run chatroom on my webserver in my room. It used to be rather active, as it was a part of the Alt.Fan.Dragon@EZBoard thing started by Sonarrat a while ago. But since AFD@Ezboard kinda died, and that my servers went unreliable because of my unstable connection, and that i went on that 3 month trip, the chat and board kinda really died.

But since i got my line fixed, rebuilt a server, and some people are getting some interest in the AFD@EZboard, i'm trying to get people back in the chat. The chat is a very simple one, phpMyChat based, no client required, just a somewhat common browser and a net connection. This is good, except that well, it's easy to forget in the background. And it's also hard to know who's on. And if anything is going on.

On my side, i had made a long time ago a crappy hack that told me this. It worked with an old amber terminal on a laptop, and was called the LurkerBot. It did what it had to do for me.

But now, i made a new version of this, that everyone can use. It's availible at http://chat.pyxaron.com/lurkerbot/LurkerBot.rar. This is the result of one single night of work, so no miracles, but it does the job so far. You still have to join the chat to actually speak and stuff, but this tells you when someone join, and beeps when messages are sent.

So far, it works fine on my systems. But i need people to test it. It doesn't take much space, doesn't leave anything on your system, just extract and run, and delete if you don't want it. And it hides as a tray icon, and only send a request for updates every 10 seconds. Not even 1kb of data.

Windows only so far, sorry if you're on something else, but i don't know how to make programs for Mac or *nix or whatever else there is.

Anyway, that's all for now. I need sleep. Very badly.

http://chat.pyxaron.com/lurkerbot/ for .zip and uncompessed, if needed.

Oh, by the way, if the sound files are annoying you, you can just close the program, change the *.WAV files for whatever else, and restart it.
