May. 1st, 2005 05:29 amGuess it would be time for an update of some sort. It's supposed to be a daily thing, not weekly.
Anyway, this week started... Well, not really usual, actually. First, the boss vanished completely. Which was nice, but kinda scary at the same time. You don't know what to expect.
But considering that i was still dead from the FurMeet, it wasn't too bad.
He didn't even call until tuesday, and i didn't see him until friday.
But i didn't get left alone. I got new interns... I'm starting to feel less and less like a tech, and more like a manager or something. I currently have three interns to take care of. I spend more time telling them where to go or what to do than doing what i'm supposed to. Which wouldn't be so bad, if the boss wasn't expecting me to do as much work as usual.
Yeah, then it becomes generic "against the boss" stuff, so i won't write it.
Wednesday, i went to Beekin's place. He's the new dragon in Montréal who contacted me last Sunday. I went there to fix his MySQL installation on his server, which had a few problems with the user permissions. It was kinda funny to see his place, very different, but very cool. You can see that he likes dragons and reptiles as soon as you get in.
I ended up staying a bit longer, just talking about random stuff with him. It's cool to have another french canadian tech-dragon. He knows more about audio/video stuff than computer/software, but that's good, since he knows stuff i don't and i know stuff that he doesn't.
And he got an old 1960-1970 ... not sure the exact year, but an old chevy with a huge engine. Really fun car. I want one too. It was awesome to ride in it. I have a motivation to get my driver's license once again.
And when i came back home, i learned that my little brother's face had been broken. He's still waiting for surgery. The bone below one of his eyes got shattered, and his eye dropped down. So now he looks... broken ... and needs surgery.
Friday wasn't very special. Work at 1, had to do some tech support at some old guy's place. That's always funny. He's 70-80 years old, so he's a bit lost with computers, and he keeps showing me photos and stuff of the family. Which isn't bad. And kinda funny, considering that he pays 60$/hour for on site support.
And the boss plus three interns where in the store, which ended up being the least productive situation ever.
After that, WEEEEKEEEND! Wheee...
Got to sleep late, didn't go anywhere because of the rain, tried to clean my room but got invaded by Dragon9. Now that i built him his new laptop, he doesn't want to stay in his appartement.
Because of this and of stuff happening online, i got close to nothing done. Then i found out that there was a demo version of Empire Earth 2 availible, which is a game i was planning to get as soon as possible.
Turns out that i'm happy that there was a demo, since the game kinda sucks... The new interface is awesome, but they should have left the game as it was before. Now they've put all kinds of "per area" limits, and automated things that shouldn't have been. I can't make my walls of defense towers anymore, or build two buildings of the same type to get units faster, or do anything other than use things the way they were meant to be. Which really sucks, and makes me not want to buy the retail version.
It's really annoying me with games these days. Why can't they just make the environnement, then let people do what they want in it, as long as it follows the "physical" rules of the world.
I mean, why do they put limits in RTS for how many things you can build. Population cap can work, since you can't have more than x people fed, but why wouldn't a country build more than 6 defense towers when fighting for it's survival. And in FPS games, why do they keep putting stupid invisible walls that stay there until you reach various objectives in the right order. If you want to make it impossible to reach for people, don't use a invisible wall, put something physical that will get removed later, make it too hard to get in for players or something that's explained in game. And anyway, why is it so bad when people manage to get thru anyway? It's a game...
Some people really need to understand that yes, eye candy is good, but it's good when it works in the first place. Stop shipping things that barely work, but are very shiny. *growls*
Yeah... That annoyed me.
Other than that.
... yeah, another thing that annoys me at the moment. I thought i was done with that, but it seems that no. I still end up staring at the contact list for hours when i want to randomly talk with someone by IM.
Then it ends up being 5 am, and everyone is gone to bed. Bleh.
That's one of the reasons why i like chatrooms. You wait for people to come in, you don't need to think about if it's worth bothering them or if they're busy or not.
Anyway.
Tomorr... ok, today, i need to get some stuff out of my room, then go buy a shopvac to replace my dying electrolux vacuum cleaner. After that... ... i need to go something outdoor. Or go elswehere. Gyaah. Because after that it's .... MONDAY! *hides*
... and i shoud go sleep, i'm getting too random for my and my laptop's own good. And the cats are getting suspicious.
Goodnight.
